An intercity parcel delivery involves more than moving a package between towns. You need to know how the parcel reaches the transport service, what schedule applies and how it gets into the recipient’s hands. Clarify those steps before accepting a quote.

Ask about the exact route

Provide the actual collection and destination addresses. An enquiry from Harare to Bulawayo, Mutare, Kwekwe or Murewa needs confirmation for that route and date; mentioning a town does not establish that every address there is covered.

Ask whether the collection is from your premises, a depot or another agreed point. Check the final delivery arrangement separately.

Confirm departure and handover timing

Ask when the parcel must be ready and when it is expected to arrive. A collection time is not necessarily a departure time, and arrival in the destination town is not necessarily delivery to the recipient. If a depot is involved, confirm its opening hours and collection requirements.

Tell the provider about the recipient’s deadline and whether they can travel to a collection point. Do not leave that decision until the parcel is already in transit.

Prepare package information

Give the packed dimensions, weight, package count and contents. Explain anything fragile or needing special handling. If the shipment is bulky stock rather than an ordinary parcel, ask whether cargo or freight transport is more appropriate.

Ask about item acceptance and packaging before collection, especially for goods requiring particular conditions.

Check the full price

Confirm whether the quote covers local collection, intercity transport and final delivery. Ask about any optional cover, handling charges and fees for an unsuccessful handover or return. Compare the same service when reviewing another quotation.

Agree how the recipient will be notified

Find out which reference will identify the shipment and how both parties can request an update. Ask what evidence confirms receipt and what happens if the recipient is not available. Share private contact details only through the agreed booking channel.

For depot collection, ask who may collect, what identification or authorisation is required and how long the parcel can remain there before additional arrangements are needed.

Send a complete route enquiry

Your enquiry should include both locations, the proposed date, the delivery deadline, package measurements and whether door-to-door service is required. If the provider cannot confirm the route immediately, ask when you should expect an answer before committing to the shipment.

Review the site’s coverage information, then request confirmation for your exact route. Availability, price and timing need to match the specific parcel and date.
